2016-1-29  Is Office for Mac compatible with OSX 10.11? I have a Macbook Pro running OSX 10.8, which I have not updated because I still use Office 2008 (I don't like the newer versions). Will this version of Office still run on the newer versions of OSX, including the newest 10.11?

  • 2016-1-30  Office 2011 v14.6.0 is compatible with OS X 10.11.x provided you keep the Office software current. Microsoft will continue to provide updates & support for that version until it reaches end-of-life. I haven't seen a published date, but my guess is that it will be supported for at least another 18 months.
  • El Capitan, 10.11, is the last upgrade that can be installed on my Macbook. It is fast enough for office work an web browsing, the battery, screen and keyboard all still work great as does the wifi. There is literally nothing wrong with this Macbook aside from a missing rubber foot.
  • Microsoft Office compatibility. As we warned back in June, older Office for Mac will not work with MacOS Catalina. If you have Office 2011 for Mac or before, do NOT update to Catalina because Office will stop working. There’s no workaround for this.
